Detail shots were requested. There was more digital trickery involved in this illustration than I ultimately was comfortable with, which is why I kind of hate it now. But here's some (obvious) tips.
Records and CDs? Radial blur is your friend. Just eyeball in your highlights with a few straight strokes, then apply the blur.
Need to stretch a flat design to fit a plane in perspective? Skew Transform it.
Have metal or inorganic shapes you want to keep crisp? Give them their own layer, draw their shape in first in a flat colour, turn on Preserve Transparency, then paint away. Masks are also an option but they're more than you need if you don't require alpha transparency for parts of the layer, I say. That gramophone trumpet could have done with some bloom around the highlights though, it looks too cut out.
The rugs are totally cheap. One day I'll be sued for using oriental rug designs culled from Google.
I actually liked the "cut-out" gramophone effect... makes it look a tad eldritch, which is pretty much the story anyway.
Somehow extreme close-up makes this level of skill seem a little bit less unattainable (although still out of range of my hopes by a lot), but only in that your frigging patience comes from somewhere in deep space on an undiscovered planet.

I watched Titanic when I got back home from the hospital, and cried. I knew that my IQ had been damaged.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
